I was sent a copy of Precious and I was very excited because I had been wanting to see that movie. Tonight I watched it and I thought it was incredible. Lets start with the acting. Mo'Nique (who played Precious' mother) absolutely blew me away. She was so raw and real and riveting - she never held back for a second. She made me forget she was an "actress". She became this character, and brought depth and humanity to this woman who was such a monster... Now the story and actual film. I've read it's based on a true story and whether thats true or not stuff like that happens all the time, everyday, everywhere. And it's heart wrenching. I loved how every time she looked in the mirror she saw a white, skinny, blonde girl reflecting back at her, but once she was able to start loving and accepting herself, there was a moment where she looked in the mirror and we saw Precious... exactly as she was. I loved the way she flashed to fantasies during those times where reality was too unbearable - her biggest tool she had. I loved that there was no make up. I loved the way it was filmed. I loved how the story wasn't sugar coated. I love how all the director wanted us to see was truth....
I can not wait to read the book.
